CBP Deploys Enhanced X-Ray Technology at El Paso Commercial Entry

El Paso, Texas - U.S. Customs and Border Protection at the Port of El Paso will deploy enhanced X-ray inspections systems at the two commercial facilities. The Portal VACIS (Vehicle and Cargo Inspection Systems) is designed to scan cargo and containers for explosives, weapons and drugs while at the same time help expedite the inspection process. (more)

CBP Discovers Shipment of Opium in International Mail

Chicago - U.S. Customs and Border Protection officer working with his detector dog Rambo Tuesday seized more than two kilograms of opium at the Chicago foreign mail facility. While screening arriving international mail at the foreign mail facility at Chicago's O'Hare International Airport, Rambo alerted on the shipment of opium-saturated cloths that were concealed in pillow cases. Fort Hancock, Texas - U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers performing anti-terrorism inspections at the Fort Hancock, Texas port of entry seized 125 pounds of marijuana late Tuesday morning. Three people were arrested in connection with the failed smuggling attempt. (more)

Border Patrol Canine Leads to Marijuana Hidden in Trailer Floor

Tucson, Ariz. - Border Patrol agents Tuesday seized nearly 1,550 pounds of marijuana from a truck pulling a flatbed trailer that entered the United States in a remote area near Sonoita, Ariz. About 11:25 a.m., Border Patrol agents assigned to the Sonoita Station encountered a Ford pick-up truck pulling a flatbed trailer loaded with steel pipes being driven by a resident alien. (more)

San Ysidro, Calif. - U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers working at the San Ysidro port of entry arrested a 24-year-old U.S. citizen male registered to participate in the SENTRI program Monday morning, after they discovered 3.5 pounds of marijuana in the vehicle he was driving. (more)
